The Tu-1 strike aircraft prototype was developed by the Tupolev Design Bureau in the mid 40-s on the order of the Soviet Air Force, and is based on the Tu-2 series bomber. The prototype was created by modifying the “63/2” project, installing new engines,cannon armament, changing the landing gear and updating the radio equipment. The maximum speed is over 650 km/h. The Tu-1 prototype is armed with two 45 mm NS-45 cannons, two 23 mm NS-23 cannons and also two turrets with a Berezin UB machine gun are installed for rear hemisphere protection. As for suspended weaponry, the Tu-1 can be equipped with three 1000 kg, three 500 kg or six 250 kg bombs, or it can carry two 450 mm wet-heating torpedoes to destroy surface targets.
