The AV-8S Harrier is an export version initially developed for the Spanish Navy under the name “Matador.” This variant was introduced into service in 1975; seven of these aircraft were later sold to Thailand, where they served until 2006 on the aircraft carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet.
A highly versatile platform, the AV-8S boasts a wide range of armament options for both air and ground targets. It’s equipped with two 30mm ADEN cannons with AP and HE rounds, two AIM-9P air-to-air missiles, and a large number of countermeasures. For ground targets you’ll have access to a large amount of bombs, with 250 lb, 500 lb and 1000 lb standard bombs along with 250 lb and 500 lb drag bombs, including napalm. You can also equip Mighty Mouse rocket pods or the larger Zuni Mk32 rockets, all aided by a ballistic computer to ensure accuracy.
Being a VTOL aircraft, a significant advantage of the Harrier in ground battles is its ability to rearm at helipads, allowing you to perform numerous accurate strikes in quick succession!
